 | | Pete White calls it a day! |
| | I've decided to finally call it a day after 43 years & I'm leaving BT. I will be having a drink in the Moon on the Water on 4th October. Unfortunately, it is the day after the first Thursday Club meeting but hopefully, some of you can manage 2 days on the trot and can make it for a drink. Starting at 1.00. I hope to see some old faces.
Cheers Chalky |

 | | R.I.P Alan McDermott 1946-2024 updated |
| | Harry Bannister emailed us with the sad news of Alan's death.
I’ve just found out that my old pal Alan McDermott Mac has passed away after being diagnosed with cancer a couple of years ago. We both came out of our time in Pioneer in 1966 but Mac transferred to Turret in the late sixties and subsequently left the GPO, as was, in 1979 to work for various telecomms companies in the Middle East and Asia developing their training programmes.
I’ve no funeral details as yet but given he ended up living near Scunthorpe and working for Ericsson’s Telecommunications, I don’t see a massive demand from colleagues to attend his funeral, but should anybody wish to send their condolences or attend the funeral then get in touch with Graham Whiteside and he’ll forward your requests to me and I’ll get back to you.
Best wishes,
Harry
Information update:
There will be a delay to the funeral due to the requirement of a postmortem.
Mac’s family have been in touch funeral with the funeral details:
Thursday 24th October at 10:30am
All Saints Church
37 Market Street
Winterton
Scunthorpe
DN15 9TU
Refreshments after at The George, which is near by. |

 | | Farewell Glynn Martin |
| | Karl Highcock contacted us with the sad news of Glynn's death.
I've just received the sad news about Glynn Martin.
Glynn passed away peacefully at home on Saturday 17 of August, after suffering from cancer. He was 71.
Glynn joined BT in 1969 on construction MDF duties in south Manchester, before moving into Dial House in 1986 on Circuit Provision. He remained there a number of years before taking a release scheme.
I have been told there will be a Pure Cremation.
Ikey.
There will be no funeral service for Glynn as it stands. If we hear of any wake or celebration for Glynn, we will update the notice. |

 | | Wraggy's Outta Here.. |
| | After 44+ years joined Aug 1979 in the GPO BT, mostly keeping the Kilostream platform and network in good order, I have hit the button and will be leaving on Friday 15th March.
I have had many great times and laughs and come into contact with so many wonderful people, characters, across the whole of the UK some of which have become great friends. Arthur 'Okkie Nokkie' Mercer is the 1st REAL character that sticks in my mind - Central Ex as a Youth
It has been a fantastic Boy's Club but I am looking forward to finding new hobbies to enjoy.
I'm being stripped of my 81's and pass card in Dial House on 15th March, and once that has been done, I will be in The Moon Under the Water from 13:00 if anyone would care to join me, hair-dye-less, for some lubrication and a gab.
To summarize:
Friday 15th March 13:00 onwards, Beer, Chat, The Moon Under The Water, Deansgate, Manchester |
