 | | Farewell Dave Turton |
| | Dave’s wife Ivy and daughter Amanda sent me the very sad news that he passed away suddenly last Monday the 12th October.
He left BT in the mid 1990’s on release; then worked part time at B&Q Bury where I know he enjoyed bumping into former colleagues for a chat.
I had the absolute pleasure of working with Dave on various occasions in the 1980 90’s when he worked in the ADCO & Datel Planning offices moving latterly to Customer Network Operations Project Management all based in Telephone House Manchester. Previously he had worked on external works groups around the Greater Manchester telephone area.
He was a true gentleman extremely knowledgeable and always great company.
The funeral is arranged for Monday the 26th October at Radcliffe Crematorium; due to current restrictions it will be strictly family only in attendance. |

Before retiring Dave was a Customer Service engineer working for Openreach in the Macclesfield area. He also used to cover the PABX customers around Macclesfield Congleton and surrounding areas. His wife Geraldine died some years ago but he leaves two daughters and grandchildren who are sure to miss him. RIP Dave.

 | | Farewell Ralph Brownell |
| | John Coop contacted us with the sad news of Ralph's death.
Sad news I'm afraid.
Ralph died last week after suffering with a twisted bowel problem.
He worked on Trunk Test in Dial House in the 1960-s and was promoted to lev1 on External Planning.
No funeral information but with the current situation I would imagine it is family and close friends only.
Cheers for now
John |

 | | Farewell Frank Rowbotham |
| | It is with great sadness I have to announce the death of my good friend Frank. His wife Jean informed me that he passed away peacefully on 19 th September. It was due to complications following a heart attack.
Frank started out on maintenance at Trafford exchange then followed many years on Telex . Both at York Street and Dial House. When that closed he ended up having to work for a living on a Broadband Provision.
Frank's funeral will be next week at Agecroft. Due to Government restrictions though it is unlikely that any of his friends and colleagues will be allowed to attend. |

 | | Rod Lomas |
| | I had to call on a neighbour of Rod's yesterday and saw his house up for sale. Was shocked to hear that Rod and his wife Wendy had both died on the same day a few months ago. Rod worked on telegraph's for many years in fact I was his youthie in 1965. Rod was a jazz enthusiast and lived in Denton!
Steve Dunn replied to our News email as follows:
Cannot think why I did not relay the information about the passing of Rod and Wendy Lomas to the BTMRStaff web site at the time but this is the message that I sent out to the former Telex guys I am still in contact with:-
Guys
I have just received some very sad news via a telephone call from John Clegg. It is with very great sadness that I must report to you the deaths of both Rodney and Wendy Lomas who both passed away within ten minutes of each other at about 11 pm yesterday night Friday 14th June. As best as I understand it Rodney had been admitted to hospital with a suspected hip injury after a fall and Wendy I assume died at home. The synchronicity of their passing is extremely thought provoking I will relay further information as it becomes available to me. At the moment it is uncertain what if any funeral arrangements there may be as John told me he believes they may both have donated their bodies to medical science.
With Great Sadness Rodney and Wendy R.I.P.
Rod and Wendy having actually died in 2019 and both having donated their bodies for medical research were able to have a joint funeral after their remains were returned just before the advent of lockdown earlier this year. The funeral was well attended by family friends and a large contingent of former Telex and BT colleagues.
I took over as TOA of the Telex field maintenance when Rod retired from BT in the early 1990's. He was far and away the best bloke I ever worked with during my 34 years with BT. Rod was so revered by the guys who worked with him that for many years and up until just before he died we would regularly get together and take him out for a drink. Rod was well known for his union work for the Manchester central internal branch of the POEU. Rod and Wendy are sadly missed by their many friends and relatives.
Steve Dunn. |

 | | Remembering Bill Howard |
| | Sue Raisbeck has been in touch about the passing of her father Bill.
Sadly my father Bill Howard has passed away.
Bill worked in Central area GPO BT after starting as an apprentice in the 1950's.
A larger than life character known by many for his great sense of humour. He is probably best remembered working on large customer switch maintenance as well as being on permanent call out.
Bill passed away peacefully on the 24th June in Willow Wood Hospice shortly before his 80th birthday.
Sue will be sending a photo which I will add when it arrives.
At this stage we have no funeral details. If there is a possibility of attending the funeral I will also post the information as it becomes available. |
