 | | RIP Kenneth Michael Gregory 1946-2025 |
| Harry Bannister broke the sad news of the death of Kenneth Michael Gregory
I’ve just found out that my old work pal Kenneth Michael Gregory so Ken to some and Mike to others has passed away after being diagnosed with cancer a couple of years ago.
We both joined the GPO as was in 1963 as Y3YC's and came out of our time in Pioneer in 1966, and subsequently transferred to Rampart. I was then transferred to Transit and Mike joined me a few years later. Anybody who knew him will know he was a solitary figure who never married and whose only passion was for the Mini, which is probably why he never married.
According to a close friend there will be no funeral service and his body will be cremated but if I hear of any change I'll contact Graham with the details.
Best wishes,
Harry
Further information and confirmation that there will be no funeral service.
It seems Mike has opted for a pure cremation to keep the costs down, so basically his body is delivered to the crematorium and cremated, with absolutely no fanfare so there's no point in hanging fire for further developments.
I've been meeting up with his pals ever since we all retired twenty years ago so we'll have a a bit of a wake for him the next time we meet.
Harry. | |

The reg of Mike's mini began with OLO, he gave me a lift to Stone in it when it was new. I joined Dalton the year after Mike, he was a quiet friendly person. R.I P Mike |

Sorry to hear about Mike, Harry's bang in with his comments. I too worked with them both, I was in Rampart with Mike and followed him some time later into Transit to work with them both.
To day that had a passion about Mini's is true and if he joined in a conversation, no matter what the topic, within minutes Mike would mention his Mini.
A couple of humorous memories :-
In Rampart there was a small rest room and I was sat in there one Summer morning along with a couple of the Rota Men when Mike appeared at the door looking a little uneasy. Mike was asked what was up, he told us that the previous evening he ran a bath and as he attempting to get in, unbeknown to him, the young cat from next door had come in through the window and seeing his dangly bits dangling above, jumped up and clung onto them.
After the laughter died down, Mike was asked whether he sat down in the water and drowned the cat, Mike advised us that he hadn't and had carefully detached each paw, claw by claw and let the cat out of the back door.
This one has all three of us in it. Rampart used to have their Annual Christmas 'Lads Do' at Phillips Park Hall near Whitefield. Harry and I lived in Radcliffe and Mike north of Breightmet a few miles from us. Harry had arranged for his wife to meet us outside after Midnight to pick us up however, as it was icy she didn't want to drive across the M60 road bridge meaning we'd have to walk across to meet her. Harry summoned us to leave and we were all well oiled and so we set off. I was walking with Harry and Mike was a few yards behind us. Suddenly, behind Harry and I there was the sound of rustling followed by a muffled moan and on turning all we could see were a pair of feet sticking out, about two feet off the ground, of the snow covered hedge, Mike was somewhere within. I suggested that we help Mike out but Harry wasn't having it and so we left him there. The following Monday Mike advised us that he had no memory of leaving the Hall or of walking all the way home, the only thing he knew was that his Milkman woke him up as he was fast asleep in the middle of his front lawn and covered in snow.
RIP Mike, I will never forget you, or the sight of your feet sticking out of that hedge and I hope that Harry remembers that too. |
