question.jpg Neil Ramsbottom Asks
Neil asks, does anyone remember his dad Brian Ramsbottom?

If you do remember Brian, please leave a comment!

Hello,

My father the subject was a BT engineer for many years, starting as an apprentice in the GPO around the early 70s.

He was left the company around ten years ago for medical reasons and has since development dementia.

I am curious to know if any of his former colleagues remember him or have any stories about him.

I know he used to work in 'Central' in Manchester city centre and a place I think was called 'Manchester F' in the 90s. He worked as a transmission engineer and was all over the place.

I remember he went to a place called 'Stone' for training courses when I was a child.

If you know of anybody or have the capacity to ask your members if they remember him, I would like to get in touch. I'd like to know more about my fathers career, but he cannot remember to tell me.

I remember Brian very well, he was based at MR F for several years. We were on different duties but shared
offices, occasionally working together on joint projects.
He was a very clever and knowledgeable person, had a degree I think ?, and we all got on very well.

I remember Brian. When I was on transmission planning he worked on the outer Manchester construction staff. Was a very knowledgeable bloke and really helpful. Sort of guy who I could just tell what I needed doing and he would go off and work out what stores he needed me to order and how many hours he needed to do the job. Made my life as a planner very easy. Think he use to have an office Store room on the 1st floor of Droylsden exchange.

He ended up in the transition centre probably about 2006 07 from memory maybe earlier. Last time I saw him was outside Hyde exchange probably about 2010 Although not certain He use to garage a car there and it had a PC and several mobiles phones in the boot. Told me he use to get given routes to drive and the phones use to record the signal strength as he drove so they could work out weak signal spots and I presume someone would investigate further if they should install a new mast. After that I think he ended up on Openreach working out of Altrincham on the diagnostics team but again not certain.

Graham feel free to pass my number email onto Neil if he wants any more info.
