notice.jpg Wraggy's Outta Here..
After 44+ years joined Aug 1979 in the GPO BT, mostly keeping the Kilostream platform and network in good order, I have hit the button and will be leaving on Friday 15th March.
I have had many great times and laughs and come into contact with so many wonderful people, characters, across the whole of the UK some of which have become great friends. Arthur 'Okkie Nokkie' Mercer is the 1st REAL character that sticks in my mind - Central Ex as a Youth

It has been a fantastic Boy's Club but I am looking forward to finding new hobbies to enjoy.

I'm being stripped of my 81's and pass card in Dial House on 15th March, and once that has been done, I will be in The Moon Under the Water from 13:00 if anyone would care to join me, hair-dye-less, for some lubrication and a gab.

To summarize:
Friday 15th March 13:00 onwards, Beer, Chat, The Moon Under The Water, Deansgate, Manchester

question.jpg Does anyone remember Paul Davison?
Paul got in touch asking if anyone remembers him.

He used to work in Preston and Blackburn in the 1960's and would like to get in touch with his work colleagues from that era before he moved to Southampton.

I've asked Paul for a photo, I'll add it if he gets back with one.

We have an email address and a phone number if anyone wants to get in touch with Paul, please get in touch via our Contact page.

notice.jpg Manchester Telecoms Heritage
 Hi

For those with an interest in local telecoms heritage, Nigel Linge, Professor Emeritus of The University of Salford is running a local heritage project as follows.

If interested please follow the weblink below to contact Nigel directly.

Thanks

Andy Simmons

-------

The weblink for Nigel's project is: www.manchestertelecomheritage.com/projects.php

Background

In essence, Nigel is trying to map the usage by telecommunications companies of buildings within central Manchester and its border with Salford.  His focus is within living memory and so his plan is to informally interview people who worked for a telecoms company in Manchester.  That is any company and any role, not just BT and not just engineers.  Buildings are re-purposed or demolished, companies come and go, records can be lost, and consequently, important heritage becomes eroded, but knowledge remains locked in the minds and memories of those who worked there.  So, for any given building, Nigel would like to better understand what function it served, how it was organised internally, and what were the experiences of those who worked within it.

His longer term, 12-18 month plan, is to write a book that records Manchester’s telecommunications heritage.

By following the above weblink, people can log an interest in the project by completing an online form.  That sends an alert through to Nigel which prompts him to contact people directly and discuss how they might be able to arrange an informal interview.
